Small, Meaningful Wedding just outside of Lexington, Kentucky | Film & Digital Photographs

Countryside Kentucky Wedding with Film & Digital Photos

Oh, this day is one I look back on with fond memories! Hannah and Neil are some of the kindest, dearest people. They had an intimate May wedding with their families in at Chaplin Hill. Chaplin Hill is a darling Bed & Breakfast in the countryside of Danville which is just outside Lexington, Kentucky.

Neil and Hannah wanted to embrace the candid photos. They didn't want do too many posed photos, which if you know me, is where I thrive as an artist. They also adore the vintage feel of film and added film onto their wedding package. As of today, I now include film in every small wedding package. (I’ve changed a few things since I did their wedding in 2022.)

Here’s a photo from Hannah’s parents wedding that they sent for inspo, I adore film ~

They wanted to the focus of the photos to not only be on them, but on their family. Everyone that was there is a key figure in their lives. They all gathered around for the ceremony in a half-circle to watch Hannah and Neil’s ceremony. Handwritten vows were said, poems recited and songs sung.

After the short but heartfelt ceremony, there was bubbly popped and toasts given. Lots of hugs between old and new family members, and happy tears too.

Then I walked around with Hannah and Neil and took some portraits of them. We admired the charming Bed and Breakfast and the dogwood tree that was still in bloom. I also took some family portraits but didn’t put them in here. I never know if it gets boring to look through those as a casual viewer or not.

They signed the marriage license and made it official official, then we looked at the cows. It was a gorgeous morning and I highly recommend getting married on a May morning in Kentucky.

Thanks to Hannah and Neil for having me take their photos, I’m forever grateful! Enjoy the photos.

Ps: I almost didn’t add this, but here we are. While I’m very proud of my work for this wedding, here's something I do differently now. I don’t put a limit on the hours of coverage people hire me for. I believe they hired me for two hours of coverage and so getting ready wasn’t possible to squeeze in. Now that I’ve done away with hourly limits, if I could re-do it, I’d offer them my “small wedding” package. Which would include the finishing touches of getting ready too. The story would've been told more thoroughly to start with getting ready instead of the beginning of the ceremony. It feels a bit jarring to me when I look through their gallery and it starts with the ceremony. To me, ceremony is a the climax of a story. I do love telling stories and a good story needs a beginning, in my opinion.

Thanks to all the vendors ~
